Biography
Gary Buzel is an American photojournalist and documentarian. He has been producing work in the genres of portraiture, landscape, marketing, documentary, journalism and travel.
Presently, Gary is working on a long term photo project called “Lens Forgotten” documenting decay in both urban and rural communities and the stories behind them.
In 2016, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences awarded Gary with 2 Emmy Awards for Breaking News photojournalism and reporting. He covered the reappearance of the SS Monte Carlo Shipwreck off the coast of Coronado, California for CW6 News San Diego and CNN. When working in TV news, Gary produced, shot, edited and presented live on TV his stories for newscasts, essentially a one man creation team not reliant on a crew.
Gary is also the recipient of numerous awards, including First Place for fine art photography by the San Diego County Fair and Eastern States Exposition. In 2017, Gary was the First Place winner of the Arizona Highways Magazine landscape photo contest.
In 2015, Gary was the first Television Journalist to use UAS (Drones) for TV news gathering in San Diego. He was the first UAS pilot to fly drones for TV news live video during the Thunder Over Louisville Airshow coverage on WDRB-TV.
Gary is a creative that melds art with a human experience. His work takes you deep into a visceral experience of storytelling.
